In 1987 the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry was formed in
response to the need for recognition of those veterinarians who had advanced training and competency in
animal dentistry. A group of leaders in the field were tested for competency and became the Charter Fellows
of the Academy in 1987. Since that time, over 80 veterinarians on four continents have been found qualified to stand for and pass the
written and practical examinations, and be named as Fellows of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry. Though
some have since retired, the Academy currently has an active membership of 75 Fellows.
